XOXOK
XOXOK
XOXOK hails from Carrboro, North Carolina.

The music of XOXOK is conceived on the fretboard, cradled in headphones, and cultivated at the microphone. The guitar and vocal influences are far-flung, but cohesive (Jeff Buckley, John Frusciante, Frank Ocean, James Blake).

Often armed with just an electric guitar, the live performance is a model of intimacy and presence. With a "warm voice [that] embraces you", XOXOK delivers a combination of soulful, smooth, and soft tunes laced with unabashed emotion.

Upon relocating to Durham, NC in late 2015, Hyacinth began as a handful of Garageband demos in vocalist/guitarist Jake Martin's computer. After meeting synth wizard/sonic experimentalist Jon Mason on /r/bullcity (it's a 2016 love story, baby), the pair immediately began rehearsing and recording. The resulting 3 song EP, combining a love of acrobatic guitars, tight song structures, synths, and drum machines, was released in October of 2016.

"Waking April’s self-titled EP embodied all that they are as musicians. The melodic hooks and innovative harmonizations embodied who they are as musicians and the direction they want to head with their music. I recommend any indie/rock fans pick up this EP and expect great things in the future for this dynamic duo." Review by Kelly McNeil and Carter Allison

Musical and romantic couple Bethany McGeHee and Alex McKee began playing music together years before they decided to form Waking April. Through several line-up changes and shifting genres, the couple's music has only gotten stronger, richer and more exciting as they constantly evolve and adapt, never losing sight of what they truly care about: creating music together.

As a result, Waking April's songs are sturdy and versatile, able to evolve and grow with the band. Now taking on an acoustic sound, their songs still remain as catchy, meaningful and powerful as they ever have been. Currently, the band is performing with their friend Joy Perniciaro. Her additional harmonies complement the duo's already dynamic, and complex sound.
