Knurr and Spell
Knurr and Spell
Knurr and Spell is self-described by its members as friends playing music. An eclectic indie rock band from
the Chapel Hill area, their sound can be best described by their musical influences which range from
Pavement, The Pixies, and Modest Mouse, to David Byrne and Th’ Faith Healers. The band’s members have
been playing in and around the Triangle for well over 12 years with current and past musical projects
including North Elementary, The Chest Pains, Pleasant, and Simple. Their debut album ‘Ought’, was
recorded by Thom Canova and released in December 2015 on Potluck Records. Their second album
‘Wooleye’, recorded by Nicholas T. Petersen at Track and Field, is scheduled for release in August 2018.
While ‘Wooleye’ maintains the same indie rock musical sentiment as ‘Ought’, with spastic beats, driving
rhythms, and intertwining vocals, this album delivers a seemingly evolved sound consisting of heavier
melodies with a less-pop-more-punk appeal.
Knurr and Spell are: Sean Parker (guitar, vocals), Rodney Merritt (guitar, vocals), Betty Rupp (Bass, vocals),
and Eric Hermann (drums).
